Thermal, Karlovy Vary
This painting is my first step into a new cycle about cities I carry in my heart. I started, naturally, at home in Karlovy Vary. I wanted to capture the iconic brutalism of the Thermal Hotel, which has landed so inextricably in my hometown. My aim isn’t to paint the building as we commonly see it, but rather its geometric imprint and essence.
On the right side of the painting, a glass wall with orange details rises, reflecting the modern glass "window" to the world that brutalist architecture provides. Above it all, a clear sky arches with four green "suns." To me, these suns express everything Karlovy Vary has to offer—they symbolize peace, fresh air, and the healing springs pulsing deep beneath this brutalist giant. For me, the entire scene is about the meeting of modernity and the nature that surrounds the architecture in my hometown.
