The Guard II

The Guard 2 follows on from my painting The Guard, which I created as a symbol of female solidarity, closeness and mutual support. This time, I have replaced the protective flight of birds with a school of fish.

The fish swim together, while a net stretches out behind them. At first glance, it appears to be a barrier meant to keep them within a defined space. Yet beneath it, there is an opening – a way out.

That opening is important to me. Protection does not necessarily mean keeping someone inside. Sometimes, true support is knowing that there are people standing beside you while still giving you the space to find your own way.
