Shrimp in a Rocket
This is the very first painting where it all began. With the painting Shrimp in a Rocket, I launched the entire Signals series. Why a shrimp? To me, it is a symbol of nature's fragility. Placing it into a pink tangram rocket was an experiment—a contrast between delicate life and that technical power carrying us into the unknown. The pink color is my first "shot" of playfulness into the strict, black-and-gray world of logic. It is a puzzle about how we feel when we, as fragile beings, set out to face the immense universe.
