Maltese Boat

Malta and its luzzu boats—the sun, colors, scent of the sea, and seagull cries. Who wouldn't want to paint that? The painting Maltese Boat is my snapshot of that memory. I wanted to capture the sharp contrast of the Mediterranean’s deep blue against the vibrant yellow and warm brown colors of the hull. The focal point is the Oculus, the protective eye—a watchful guide and guardian of the fishermen—still vigilant within a triangle of sunlight on the bow. Perhaps I was a sailor in a previous life.
