Jaromir Jagr

For the Homework exhibition by Galerie La Femme, I chose Jaromír Jágr from the guests of the TV programme Na plovárně. What interests me most about him is his perseverance, discipline and approach to work – that is what makes him a role model for me.

I built the painting around the principle of the tangram. Using its geometric pieces, I created the figure of a hockey player and placed him in the setting of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, where the Czech team won the gold medal.

I didn't want to create a conventional portrait, but to piece Jágr together from what defines him – hockey, movement, a specific moment, and above all, his perseverance.
