I Know Nothing – Awakening

This painting is a direct response to and counterpoint of the previous work. While a false sense of omniscience pulled us down to earth, acknowledging our own ignorance—that liberating “I know nothing”—brings absolute liberation and awakening. On the canvas, I used the symbolic colors of this liberation: ultramarine, purple, and gold. The Tangram figures are no longer crushed by their own weight; they have lost their heavy anchorage to the ground and appear to levitate with ease in the landscape. The step into the unknown is no longer a threat, but a freedom illuminated by the great golden sun in the background. It is a state of mind in which we cast aside the ego and finally open ourselves to the world.
