Homage to Pop Art: Playing with Colours and Shapes
the way I see it
The painting Homage to Pop Art: Playing with Colours and Shapes (Tribute IV) is part of my Homage to Pop Art series, inspired by Andy Warhol’s work and his approach to colors, shapes, and repetitive motifs. In this piece, I focus on the theme of fish, assembled from Tangram elements, exploring how simple geometric shapes can evoke movement, dynamism, and the diversity of the underwater world.
The painting's color scheme reflects the playful visual language of Pop Art—bold blue, pink, and red create a striking contrast, adding vibrancy and energy to the composition. The Tangram, a traditional Chinese puzzle consisting of seven geometric pieces, serves as a tool to simplify forms, with each fish maintaining a unique character and identity.
This artwork is an experiment in visual composition, where the repetition of shapes in horizontal lines mirrors the aesthetics of pop-art screen prints. At the same time, I embrace the playfulness and versatility that Tangrams offer—using just a few fundamental elements, infinite variations can be created.
